Edwards (1998) notes that records for Ectemnius dives are concentrated in south-east England and Yorkshire, and are notably sparse in the Midlands and East Anglia despite relatively good recording levels there, also suggesting that its national status should be reviewed (to Nationally Scarce). Nesting occurs in dead wood and cells are stocked with flies such as syrphids and tachinids. Adults visit umbellifers such as Carrot flowers. References
